LOCAL RESPONSIBLE FASHION BRANDS
Welcome to our online directory of responsible fashion brands in ‘so called’ Australia. This list is a work in progress and by no means exhaustive.
You can use the menu to select what type of brand, clothing, style and size you’re looking for. The size guide may not be completely accurate as different brands have different sizing charts. Some brands only sometimes stock certain sizes at certain times.
In true DIY style this directory has been hand coded and may have some bugs we need to work out.
Responsible fashion means that these brands are consciously making efforts to create fashion that leans towards being ethical, sustainable and socially aware. Under capitalism, nothing is truly ethical or sustainable so we have chosen to use instead the term responsible fashion. A term suggested as an alternative to ‘sustainable’ by Vanessa Friedman at this year’s Copenhagen Fashion Summit.
Brands have been chosen for reasons such has:
- Handmade items
- Manufactured in Australia
- Designed in Australia and responsibly manufactured overseas
- Limited runs of clothing
- Slow fashion processes
- Use of recycled materials
- Use of fabrics created in ways that generate less impact on the environment than other fabrics
