Welcome to Decay-Mart – an immersive and interactive department store filled with racks of discarded clothing waste and shelves of unwanted accessories. Shoppers are invited to peruse the store and take anything they like. Everything is free (if you don't count the environmental and societal costs of consumerism).
Participants come face-to-face with the tangible impacts of fashion consumption, provoking insights into the scale of fashion’s environmental toll.
Programming within the installation can include: workshops, talks, runway shows, and a shoplifting day.
Perfect for art festivals looking to blend humour, provocation, and environmental commentary. This installation is endlessly adaptable, encouraging audiences to leave with new perspectives on sustainability and the climate emergency.
This work was developed as part of a Creative Spaces and City of Melbourne residency in 2023. It is tour-ready and available for programming nationally and internationally.
